Neelam is the one stone the tradition does not hand over on sight. It is worn on trial for a few days first, and kept only if those days go well. Why "not with". Two stones are kept apart when their grahas are naisargik shatru — natural enemies. Chandra is given no enemies of his own, but he is the enemy of Budh, Shukra and Shani, so the enmity is read both ways here. This is a general rule; a chart can override it, and that is the pandit's call, not the list's. "साथ नहीं" क्यों। दो रत्न तब अलग रखे जाते हैं जब उनके ग्रह आपस में कुदरती दुश्मन हों। चंद्रमा का अपना कोई दुश्मन नहीं माना गया, लेकिन वे बुध, शुक्र और शनि के दुश्मन हैं — इसलिए यहाँ दुश्मनी दोनों तरफ़ से पढ़ी गई है। यह आम नियम है; कुंडली इसे बदल सकती है, और वह फ़ैसला सूची का नहीं, पंडित जी का है।

If your kundli page shows a different stone. It is not a mistake. The kundli's Shubh card reads the stone from the lagnesh — the lord of your lagna — while the table above reads it from the janma nakshatra swami. Both rules are in use, and they agree only by coincidence. Which one applies to you is judged from the chart, and that is your Pandit ji's work. यदि आपके कुंडली पृष्ठ पर कोई और रत्न लिखा हो। वह ग़लती नहीं है। कुंडली के शुभ कार्ड में रत्न लग्नेश से लिया जाता है — आपके लग्न का स्वामी — और ऊपर की सूची में जन्म नक्षत्र स्वामी से। दोनों चलन में हैं, और संयोग से ही एक जैसे निकलते हैं। आप पर कौन-सा लागू है, यह कुंडली देखकर तय होता है — और वह काम आपके पंडित जी का है।

No laboratory, brand or shop is named anywhere below — naming one would itself be a recommendation, and that is the thing this section exists to protect you from.नीचे कहीं भी किसी लैब, ब्रांड या दुकान का नाम नहीं है — नाम लेना ख़ुद एक सिफ़ारिश बन जाता है, और यह हिस्सा ठीक उसी से आपको बचाने के लिए है।

What should a certificate actually say?सर्टिफिकेट में असल में क्या लिखा होना चाहिए?

The stone's name, whether it is natural or synthetic, any treatment it has had, its weight and its origin. Read the certificate itself, not the sticker on the box — the word 'certified' with none of that behind it means nothing.रत्न का नाम, वह असली है या बनाया हुआ, उस पर कोई काम हुआ है या नहीं, उसका वज़न और कहाँ का है। डिब्बे पर लगा स्टिकर नहीं — सर्टिफिकेट खुद पढ़िए। ये बातें लिखी न हों तो सिर्फ़ 'सर्टिफ़ाइड' लिखे होने का कोई मतलब नहीं।

The stone is flawless and cheap. Is that a good find?रत्न बिल्कुल साफ़ है और सस्ता भी। क्या यह अच्छा सौदा है?

That is the combination to be most careful about, not the one to be pleased about. A natural stone usually carries small marks inside it.यही वह जोड़ है जिससे सबसे ज़्यादा बचना चाहिए, खुश नहीं होना चाहिए। असली रत्न में अंदर अक्सर छोटे-छोटे निशान होते ही हैं।

How do I spot a glass imitation?काँच की नकल कैसे पहचानें?

Glass often shows round air bubbles inside, and it warms quickly in the hand. A natural stone stays cool for longer.काँच में अंदर अक्सर गोल बुलबुले दिखते हैं, और वह हाथ में जल्दी गर्म हो जाता है। असली रत्न देर तक ठंडा रहता है।

The stone is "treated". Is that a fraud?दुकानदार कहता है रत्न पर "काम" हुआ है। क्या यह धोखा है?

Not by itself — treated and heated stones are extremely common. But it must be declared. Ask directly, and see the answer written on the certificate rather than said across a counter.अपने आप में नहीं — गर्म करके या और तरीक़ों से सुधारे गए रत्न बहुत आम हैं। लेकिन यह बात बतानी चाहिए। सीधे पूछिए, और जवाब दुकान पर कहा गया नहीं, सर्टिफिकेट पर लिखा हुआ देखिए।

Does a higher cost mean it is genuine?महँगा है तो क्या असली ही होगा?

Cost proves nothing in either direction. Expensive does not make a stone genuine, and inexpensive does not make it false.दाम से कुछ भी साबित नहीं होता — न इधर, न उधर। महँगा होने से रत्न असली नहीं हो जाता, और सस्ता होने से नकली नहीं।

What should I take away with the stone?रत्न के साथ क्या लेकर आना चाहिए?

A bill that names the stone and its weight, and the return or exchange terms in writing. Anyone unwilling to put either on paper has answered the question for you.बिल ज़रूर लीजिए — उसमें रत्न का नाम और वज़न लिखा हो। वापसी या बदलने की शर्त भी लिखवा लीजिए। जो इनमें से कुछ भी काग़ज़ पर देने को तैयार न हो, वह आपके सवाल का जवाब दे चुका है।

Is an uparatna just a cheaper copy?क्या उपरत्न सिर्फ़ सस्ती नकल है?

No, and it must not be. An uparatna is a different natural stone accepted for the same graha — not an imitation of the first one. It should carry a certificate exactly as the main stone does.नहीं, और होना भी नहीं चाहिए। उपरत्न एक अलग असली रत्न है जो उसी ग्रह के लिए माना जाता है — पहले वाले की नकल नहीं। उसका सर्टिफिकेट भी मुख्य रत्न जैसा ही होना चाहिए।

Can I judge a stone from a photograph?क्या फ़ोटो देखकर रत्न परखा जा सकता है?

Nobody can. If it is being bought at a distance, the certificate and the right to return it are the only two things standing in for having seen it in the hand.कोई नहीं परख सकता। अगर दूर से मँगा रहे हैं, तो सर्टिफिकेट और वापस करने का हक़ — यही दो चीज़ें हाथ में देखने की जगह लेती हैं।

Can two stones be worn together?क्या दो रत्न साथ पहने जा सकते हैं?

Stones of grahas that are natural enemies are not worn together — the 'not with' column above lists them. Stones of friendly grahas can be, but whether they SHOULD be is judged from the chart, not from a list.जिन ग्रहों की आपस में कुदरती दुश्मनी है, उनके रत्न साथ नहीं पहने जाते — ऊपर 'साथ नहीं' वाले खाने में वही दिए हैं। दोस्त ग्रहों के रत्न साथ पहन सकते हैं, लेकिन पहनने चाहिए या नहीं — यह कुंडली से तय होता है, किसी सूची से नहीं।

Can I wear a stone somebody else has worn?क्या किसी और का पहना हुआ रत्न पहन सकते हैं?

The tradition says no, and is unusually firm about it. A stone taken off after a bad period is the one most likely to be passed on, which is exactly the one not to accept.नहीं। इस बात पर परंपरा बहुत सख़्त है। जो रत्न किसी बुरे वक़्त के बाद उतारा गया हो, वही सबसे ज़्यादा आगे दिया जाता है — और ठीक वही नहीं लेना चाहिए।

Which hand?कौन-सा हाथ?

Commonly the right hand. Some traditions say the left for women. Follow what your own Pandit ji or your family follows — this is one of the places where practice genuinely differs and neither side is wrong.आम तौर पर दायाँ हाथ। कुछ जगह औरतों के लिए बायाँ कहा जाता है। जो आपके पंडित जी या आपके घर में चलता आया हो, वही मानिए — यह उन बातों में से है जहाँ रिवाज़ सचमुच अलग-अलग है और कोई तरफ़ ग़लत नहीं।

What is navratna?नवरत्न क्या है?

All nine stones set together in one ornament, one for each graha. It is worn where no single graha has been settled on. It is not a way of getting the benefit of nine stones at once, and anyone selling it that way is selling, not advising.नौ रत्न एक ही गहने में जड़े हुए — हर ग्रह के लिए एक। यह तब पहना जाता है जब किसी एक ग्रह पर बात तय न हो। यह नौ रत्नों का फ़ायदा एक साथ लेने का तरीक़ा नहीं है, और जो इसे ऐसे बेचे, वह सलाह नहीं, सामान बेच रहा है।

How long before it works?कितने दिन में असर होता है?

No honest answer to this exists, and any period quoted to you was chosen to close a sale. What the tradition does say is the opposite direction: if things become noticeably harder after wearing it, take it off and ask your Pandit ji.इसका कोई सच्चा जवाब है ही नहीं, और आपको जो समय बताया जाए वह सौदा पक्का करने के लिए कहा गया है। परंपरा उल्टी बात कहती है — पहनने के बाद अगर दिक़्क़तें साफ़ बढ़ने लगें, तो उतार दीजिए और अपने पंडित जी से पूछिए।

Does it have to be gold?क्या सोने में ही बनवाना ज़रूरी है?

No. What matters is that the metal suits the graha, and for several grahas that metal is silver, copper or panchdhatu — all of them in the table above. Gold is not the requirement it is often presented as.नहीं। ज़रूरी सिर्फ़ यह है कि धातु उस ग्रह के माफ़िक हो — और कई ग्रहों के लिए वह धातु चाँदी, ताँबा या पंचधातु है, जो सब ऊपर की सूची में हैं। सोना उतना ज़रूरी नहीं जितना बताया जाता है।

Should everyone wear a stone?क्या रत्न सबको पहनना चाहिए?

No. A graha that is already strong does not need strengthening, and a stone can be the wrong thing to give. Where a stone is not advised, the daan, colour and mantra below are the traditional route — and they cost nothing.नहीं। जो ग्रह पहले से मज़बूत हो उसे और ताक़त नहीं चाहिए, और ऐसे में रत्न देना ठीक नहीं होता। जहाँ रत्न की सलाह न हो, वहाँ दान, रंग और मंत्र ही पुराना तरीक़ा है — और उनमें एक पैसा नहीं लगता।
